The Lost Word – Chapter 9
Is anyone actually reading this? Should we continue posting it here or are we wasting our time?
Paige Sobel
Needless to say, Paige was blown away by the frankness that had poured out of Shane. The woman had been guarded all day long and seemed to say as little as possible and now this. Granted, Paige had asked for some sort of elaboration on the details of the article that had gotten Shane so worked up, but never had she expected anything like this.
But she still couldn’t see anything wrong with Shane. She was still the strong, beautiful woman who loved her son very much.
She still had her hand on Shane’s arm and gave it a gentle squeeze while she offered a supportive smile. "I’m sorry for the things that have been said about you and about your brother. Let’s take all this one issue at a time. First this," Paige picked up yet another newspaper, tore out the article, and tossed it in the fire. She repeated the process while she talked, "I work part time as a receptionist for a private investigator. When we get back home, I can pull some strings and we’ll find your brother. I’m sure just seeing him again and knowing he’s alright will ease your mind."
Paige picked up the last two remaining newspapers and torched the articles. She then turned her full attention back to Shane. "But right now, I think we should concentrate on getting you back to 100% and making sure Shay and Jared stay happy and healthy." With a gentleness that only a mother could possess, Paige lifted her hand and wiped a few stray tears off of Shane’s cheek. "Sound good?"
Jenny Schecter
Jenny, who had been sitting near enough to the woman to hear whether or not she would awaken, blinked as Papi awakened and strode over towards them. A brilliant smile etched upon her sullen features as she, too, stood to accompany the beautiful Latina woman. If it hadn’t been for that woman, she would still be rattling off loads of questions and getting herself into a panicked state. After that, Schecter managed to calm down and go on a search for some supplies. Unfortunately, she found no supplies…and still didn’t find her damn luggage. A fact that alarmed her greatly. She needed her pills.
