    It’s still the same day in 1997, and Tina is much closer to figuring it out.

    Tina was sitting at her desk, still lost in her thoughts of Bette.

    For Bette and Tina’s second date, Bette had taken Tina to the movies, which Tina had thought was a very odd choice considering that she was a movie executive and saw every movie that she wanted.  The film was a raunchy comedy aimed at adolescent males.  Bette bought two of the largest sodas, a humongous bucket of buttered popcorn, chips and salsa, Twizzlers, Snowcaps, Dots and Bon Bons. They walked very slowly to their seats, their arms filled with their ridiculous assortment of junk food.  Bette spilled some soda on herself and made a valiant effort to not let Tina see  that it bothered her

     

    Bette steered them to the back row and they climbed over other movie patrons to the seats against the theater wall.  Just before the lights went down, Tina looked around the theater and realized that they were the only patrons older than 14 and that the back rows were filled with amorous couples.  Ten minutes into the movie, Bette had snaked her arm across the back of Tina’s seat, and less than five minutes later, she reached over Tina’s shoulder headed towards her breast.  Tina slapped her hand away and whispered “Funny, Porter. I’m blocking the plate. You’ve made your point so we can leave now.”

     

    “Thank god.”

     

    They then had headed to a sushi place and over a little too much warm sake, had learned more about each other.  At the end of the evening, as they sat in Bette’s MG outside Tina’s apartment, Bette improved her baseball stats.

     

    The next morning, the Tiffany box had been delivered and Tina had gotten upset. Jewelry from Tiffany’s was over the top for the agreement she thought she and Bette had reached about the progress of their relationship.  She thought about returning it unopened, but she was too curious to resist.  Inside the beautiful box, nestled in the white satin lining, was a candy necklace, a stretchy band of elastic covered in small multi-colored circles of sugary nuggets, with a note “Dear Tina, Something I can nibble on your neck the next time we meet.  With very very very deep affection, Bette.”

     

    Tina looked at the latest box on her desk.  She had her letter opener poised to slit the parcel open when the intercom buzzed with Marilyn telling her that her meeting with the moth people was starting in the conference room in five minutes.  Tina put the opener down, deciding to wait until she could devote enough time to the package contents.

    9. The movie, the Pier, the candy necklace, and especially the photos with the balloons… Bette reliving her adolescence is very endearing. I think Bette’s about to steal home, and Tina’s going to let her. This story’s a joy to read, Spumoni. Although the next installment of this thread is the last, I’m really glad to hear that you have other stories planned. Thanks for the post!

    17. Sweet,sexy, and delightful! I believe this has become one of my favorite stories. Loving everything from the “blocking the plate” baseball references to the candy necklace and balloon pics. Just brilliant… hoping you don’t stick to ending after the next chapter…
