    Unbroken Prologue

"I just dont understand. How the hell did this happen? Everything seemed fine,"the brunette mumbled, staring out the window.
"Come on Bette, sit down," a voice said behind her.
"Shane!" Bette replied as she engulfed her into a hug.
"Everyone else is on their way. How is she?" Shane asked, scared for her answer.
"I don’t know. She’s in ICU and they won’t let me see her yet," Bette said as tears began to form in her eyes.
"Shh, everything is going to be okay. She’s going to be okay," Shane attemped to assure Bette but she was not sure how much she believed herself.
"What did I do, Shane? How could she do this? If I had been there maybe none of this would have even happened," Bette said as the tears began to flow.
"You didn’t do anything. You can’t blame yourself; this isn’t your fault," Shane replied, hugging Bette tighter.
Both ladies sat in the dimly lit waiting room of the Cedars-Sinai hospital. Shane, still in complete shock, held her best friend as she sobbed.
"I should have realized something wasn’t right. I should have been there earlier," Bette managed to say between sobs.
"Bette, listen to me, none of this is your fault. You had no way of knowing," Shane said.
"I should have known. I should have fucking seen something, anything," Bette said, now burying her head in her hands.

"Ms. Porter?" a small dark haird lady called into the waiting room.
"Yes, I’m here," Bette said, standing up, quickly attempting to dry her eyes before walking over to where the lady was standing.
"I’m Olivia, Ms. Kennard’s nurse. If you will come with me you can see her," the lady told Bette.
"Great, thank you," Bette responded. "Are you coming Shane?"
"No, you go ahead, I’ll come in a few minutes. I’ll just wait for everyone else out here," Shane said.
"Okay, thanks," Bette said folling the nurse out of the waiting room and down a long sterile-like hallway.
Bette hated hospitals and tried to avoid them as much as possible. The unwelcoming feel to the cold, white paint sent chills down her spine whenever she steped a foot inside.
She felt those same chills as she walked to Tina’s room. A lump was forming in her throat, but she attempted to hold her emotions in, at least while she was surrounded by people.
"Now, I think she may still be asleep, but I assumed you would be anxious to see her anyways," Olivia said, stopping outside one of the doors.
"Yes, thank you," Bette said, slowly walking towards the door.
"I’ll be back in a few minutes to check on her. If there is anything you need, just let me know," Olivia said as she began walking back down the hall.
Bette walked into the room a forced herself to look at the love of her life lying in the bed. Immediately, the lump in her throat became a boulder and her emotions got the
best of her. She sat on the end of Tina’s bed and cried.
"Oh my God, baby. Why?" Bette sobbed.
