    Vignettes: Chapter 8

Dana woke in the morning to a full bladder. She found the bathroom and on her way back to her room, she walked into the room Bette was staying in, accidentally. Dana hesitated for a moment when she saw Bette sleeping in the small double bed against the wall. The sunlight peeked through the white muslin curtains, warming Danas feet on the hardwood floor. Quietly turning around to slip back into the hallway, Dana suddenly heard a rustling in the bed.

    Dana?

She turned around. Im sorry, Bette. I didnt mean to wake you. I went to the bathroom and got mixed up and ended up in your room.

Bette sleepily rubbed her eyes and smiled gently. Want to have a seat with me?

Dana looked at Bette as if she were crazy. Arent you tired?

A little, but while youre here, sit down for a minute. I dont think Ive talked to you since I left, have I?

No, you and I havent really kept in touch. Alice updates me every once in a while to let me know youre doing ok.

Good old Alice. I think she communicates through all of us, doesnt she?

Dana grinned then frowned thinking of the current state of her relationship with Alice. She has her moments.

The game still treating you well? Bette asked.

Barely. Im past my peak, thats for sure, but I still play and compete. For a little longer, anyway. I love it.

You look great. Alice sends me newspaper clippings, too. You should be proud of yourself.

Dana blushed and said, Nah. Alice just likes to talk.

Bette laughed. That may be true, but youve got talent. Ive missed watching you play.

Ive got a match this week. You should stop by.

I will. Thatll be fun. Bette sighed, realizing how much she had missed over the years. She looked at Dana sitting on the bed and saw how much more mature she appeared. Hows the love life? You seeing anyone lately?

Dana rolled her eyes and looked away, avoiding Bettes stares. Not at the moment. Things just never seem to work out.

    1. I’ve just caught up and I love this–the style with the flashbacks is amazing and of course your writing spot on as usual I can’t wait for more.
