    Chapter 10

Angrily frustrated with the images of Tina’s laughter outside of that movie, Bette was driven to take some sort of action. In desperation, she drove down to Rockie’s and scanned the crowd. She could be with another too. It didn’t matter to her like that – she wasn’t completely ruined.

It didn’t take long for her to find a slender blond with short cropped hair, who was obviously interested. She got close, but couldn’t bring herself to put her hands on the girl. She didn’t want to. As the music played, Bette closed her eyes, and she imagined it was Tina. She thought with a small smile about her love standing in front of her – thinking about laying beside her just one more time. She would tell Tina how beautiful she was. How much she loved her. She would fix all of her worries, do anything for her. She would give anything for just one more day with her. Anything.

When Bette pulled back from her hold on this woman with an odd feeling in her stomach, she opened her eyes and was horrified. This wasn’t Tina. She put her hands out, creating some space between them with an accidental shove. "I … I’m sorry … I can’t … I’m so sorry."

And with that, she was off. Out the door and scrambling toward her truck as the bile churned in her stomach. It was difficult even to contemplate what had just happened. She had danced with another woman. Danced? Another woman? Although it wasn’t particularly intimate, she was angry at herself. She could never do that again, and vowed as she leaned over in shame that she wouldn’t even try. ‘Well … celibacy it is then,’ she thought with a sigh, assuming the moment should have been comedic if it weren’t so dreadfully depressing.

Letting herself into her truck with an exhaustion that made all parts of her feel heavy, she slumped down. Even given her blind confusion, she became frustrated with herself for the mistake, dropping her head onto the wheel.

    "Just kill me now …"

She calmed herself so she could make it back home, leaving the door to her truck wide open as she walked into her house in a trance. She walked in, grabbing the scotch off the edge of the counter without having to look where she had left it, and sat at the table.

    1. I am so glad they are finally together, but I’m so sad your story is ending. The way you describe the emotional basis of their relationship is fantastic. Thank you so much for sharing this story with us.

    2. When I read your AN I wasn’t sure what to expect in this chapter and I’m not sure what to expect in the next chapter either. This has been a very different story of Bette and Tina and a very shaky beginnng and the one thing I’m not completely sure of is a continuation of their relationship. Have really enjoyed the story and so sad that is it is coming to an end. And end that I hope will leave us with the knowledge that they will be together forever. At some point I had had hoped that we would learn more of what had brought Bette to her mother’s childhood home and more of her childhood and adolescent history. Why she did not go to college, etc. Thanks for an awesome story that was so different yet so compelling to read.

    3. This is an excruciatingly emotional sad depressive and exciting sweet story and I love it. Tina’s unconditional love to Bette against all odds and Bette’s isolated life situation as if she have some kind of disease. It’s a different turn of the usual Tibette story that we normally read. Too bad it have to end next chapter. I’m glad that they found their ways together again and hopefully tina’s parent’s will be more supportive w/ this relationship. T’s friends are awesome. Thanks for posting…I hope it’s a happy ending.

    4. I’m glad that Tina went to Bette, I was beginning to wonder if Bette was just going to give up. Feel so sad for Bette in this story, the loneliness and hatred that she has faced would bring anyone to their knees in time. I hope these two will always have love and happiness in their lifes. Sorry to see the story coming to an end but I have loved it. Thank you!

    5. Re Dusty Springfield comment = Legend. If you can check out a singer called Rumer she has an amazing voice reminds me so much of Dusty. Check out her songs esp Slow and Aretha so so good.

    6. Thank you for posting again so soon. And thank you for getting Tina back to Bette (so cute when her friends struggled to keep her in the car as she seemed to believe it would be quicker to run to Bette’s house!). And thank you for making me feel much much happier as I don’t think Tina will leave Bette now, realising what she has been through, and I’m sure Tina has the strength to save her, and that they will find a way to stay together. I’m so looking forward to the next chapter, but sad that this wonderful story is ending. (Dusty Springfield’s voice is truly amazing, and somehow so right for your Bette. I couldn’t believe it when that song came on the radio this morning. I’ll check out Rumer, M99.)

    7. Thank you for not letting us wait too long for this chapter :) Great story and I’m sad that it ends soon :( Would it make any difference if we readers got on our knees and beg you for some more chapters?

    8. First you make me sad. Then you make me happy. Then you make me very very sad. Then you make me very very sad-happy, and then very very happy. Are you trying to kill me!

    9. I’m so glad they found their way back to each other. Now it’s going to take time for Bette to recover her strength and her self confidence. I just hope they can find a way to stay together now.

    10. Yeah Tina, she went after her woman. Thank you Jessie. Seems that maybe Tina’s mother has a little heart after all. I hope the girls find the happiness they deserve.

    11. I love how Bette sat up to the familiar sound of gravel crunching and Tina ran into her arms. I still have tears in my eyes. Looking forward to the last chapter.
