When the Day Leaves You, 13

Alice, Bette and Dana had been cruising Hollywood Boulevard and the surrounding streets looking for any sign of Shane. What seemed like hours had passed when Bette finally looked down at her watch and said, “This is ridiculous, I have to get back to Tina.”

Alice threw her hands up before landing them back on the steering wheel. “I don’t know where she could be, we never had problems finding her before. She’s usually around here somewhere.”

“Yeah, she always turns up,” offered Dana.

“Well, she’s not turning up and I can’t be out here looking for her all night. Doesn’t she have a phone we can call,” asked Bette.

“No, well, she calls from a pay phone sometimes, but I tried calling the number and some kid answered who didn’t know her.”

Bette, defeated, looked over at Alice. “Well, drop me off and call me when you find her. Oh, and, I want to talk to her myself, so, don’t tell her anything. I mean it, Alice, nothing.”

    “Alright, alright!”

Alice proceeded through the light and after a while had passed, Dana asked, “So, wait, what are you going to talk to her about?”

“Oh, I don’t know, Dana, the weather, her favorite sports teams—the tests, Dana!”

    “Ah, the tests, gotcha.”

Bette stood in the road and watched until they drove out of sight. She walked around and kicked at some rocks before nonchalantly looking up at Tina’s window. The pulled back curtain, Tina’s silhouette staring back down at her. She sent out a wave, and got one in return.

Tina finally opened the door and said, “So, are you coming up, or are you enjoying the street too much?” She smiled, and Bette smiled back. “I’m coming up, I just need some air after the meeting I had. What a day.”

“Can I help,” said Tina, to which Bette simply shook her head, “No, but thanks.”

“Anytime. That’s what I’m here for.”

Bette laughed, fighting back tears. She didn’t know why, but seeing Tina standing there began to stir up emotions she never felt before. A few moments had passed, before she continued, “I uh, I think I’ll come up now.”

    1. Bette needs to tell Shane how sorry she is for offering her money, Most decent people would be happy to help a friend in need. Like Shane said Tina is the best part of Bette That would have been a hard blow to swallow. thanks

    2. Hahahaha…I bet that left Bette speechless! So, now Tina has a fighting chance. I wonder what she’ll say/do when she finds out. Really good story Girl!

    3. Shane to the rescue and thank God for that. Now maybe she has a chance at a life and will not be staring the grim reaper in the face for a very long time, and Bette had better behave herself, no affairs, etc. Wonderful update. PPS
