Work In Progress
The next few weeks had been a Utopia for the new parents. They had a routine for taking care of the baby allowing each parent to get enough sleep and be able to spend time with their growing toddler. For Tina she couldn’t ask for a better co-parent than Bette. Watching Bette interact with her daughter gave her satisfaction with the decision to let Bette be a part of their child’s life. Bette loved spending time with her family and realized that she enjoyed being a mother a lot more than she thought she would. The late night feedings were not a problem for her. In fact, the first few nights she would lie awake and peak into her daughter’s crib wanting to wake the sleeping toddler for her feeding. This did not go unnoticed by Tina who would smile at the sound of her stirring partner. On one occasion lying on her side facing away from her partner and daughter, she heard the sheets being cast aside and felt the shift in weight in the bed, she whispered to Bette.
“You’ve heard the wrath of her lungs”
The tiny verbal intrusion nearly gave Bette a mild heart attack.
“Jesus T, are you trying to collect early on the insurance?”
“She’ll wake you when she’s hungry babe, besides I’m not try off you, I need you around for these late night feeding you’re so fond of”
Tina turned to lay on her other side to face Bette as she disappointedly saw that Angelica was indeed, still asleep. Bette returned to bed moving closer to Tina who held her arms opened to receive her. She placed her head in Tina’s bosom and they held each other tight inhaling each other scent.
“I can’t help it; I just want to hold her all the time”
“I suppose that we should enjoy this because the next thing we know she’s eighteen and off to college”
Bette exhaled sharply
“Relax babe we have the next eighteen years to change her mind”
“Who would have thought that we’d be such clingy parents?”
“We? You mean you, miss ‘midnight feeding’ stalker”
“Ensuring that my daughter receives sustenance is not an obsession”
