Walking into Dr. Casper’s office Tina began to pull the medical forms from her purse as Bette looked around for a place to sit. The office was small but you could tell from the furnishings most of the patients were well to do. On a table in the center of the waiting area were refreshments such as, coffee, tea, and bottled water offered for the patients comfort while they waited to be seen by Dr. Casper.

Tina went into the examination room with Bette. The nurse handed her a paper gown and told her to remove everything except her underwear and put on the gown. She informed them that Dr. Casper would be right in as she exited the room. They both knew that usually when you went to a plastic surgeon you were not expected to completely undress however, Bette’s scars covered such a large part of her body it was necessary.

Dr. Casper came in and looked over the scars on Bette’s back, stomach, and buttocks. During the evaluation it was determined that she would require two separate surgeries and each surgery would require a two night stay in the hospital plus recovery time between each one. In his opinion the scar on her stomach appeared to be the deepest and would require the longest time in surgery to repair. He assured her and Tina that they could be removed with minimal scaring from the surgery its self.

The plan was to remove the damaged skin by cutting it away with small incisions then stretch the existing skin to cover the missing area and suture it in place until the area healed. Small stitches would be used that would come out on their own within six weeks. The surgical scar would leave only a very thin scar which would fade to almost unnoticeable over time.

The last scars to be removed would be those on her stomach Dr. Casper explained during her recovery she would need either her back or front to lay on so she could comfortably rest therefore, he would operate on one side

of her body at a time, starting with her backside. He drew out his surgical plan on her body with a sharpie measuring occasionally with a paper ruler. He called his nurse into the exam room and she took a few pre surgery photos of Bette’s scars and he told her they would also, take post surgery photos through out various stages of her recovery to be included in her medical records.
