With the sound of the front door closing it was so quiet in the house that you could have heard a pin drop all eyes were on Bette, as she waited for the questions to begin and as usual Alice was first.   “Porter what the hell happened last night at the club…we were all

The next morning Kit and the gang were knocking on the door bright and early. As Tina opened the door to let them in still in her robe Kit said, “We brought breakfast. Where are Bette and Boo?”   “Ah, come on in…all of you…Bette’s not up yet…I was just having coffee and Boo some

Three Weeks Later   Bette had kept all of her follow up appointments with Dr. Casper and every thing appeared to be healing. This afternoon she would get to view her skin for the first time since the surgery. Sure when she had returned to Dr. Casper for her follow up’s he had removed the

Walking into Dr. Casper’s office Tina began to pull the medical forms from her purse as Bette looked around for a place to sit. The office was small but you could tell from the furnishings most of the patients were well to do. On a table in the center of the waiting area were refreshments

After many phone conversations and much pre planning Tina, talked to Kit one last time, before they boarded their plane reminding her not to mention to anyone about their expected arrival. Both Bette and Tina had decided the best way to announce their visit, current marriage, and introduce the child they had together to everyone

Kit’s flight from LA arrived on time and Tina, Bette, and Angie were at the   airport to meet her just as they promised. Although she could only stay away   from her business for three days it was three days she was looking forward   too. She could tell as soon as she saw

Christmas came and everyone in the Kennard house had the best one they could have ever dreamed of. Angelica had awaked that morning bright and early and very excited to open the gifts that Santa had brought her. She also had a special gift from her mommy and her mommy’s friend Bette too.   Bette

Bette slept the day away until Tina came and woke her up for dinner. Sitting down at the table to a light meal of soup and salad Bette had difficulty maintaining eye contact with Tina.   “Bette tonight is movie night and it is Angelica’s turn to pick what we watch. Would you like to

Tina and Bette had worked together all day in the kitchen preparing for tonight’s dinner with Rachel. Tina was so excited to finally have Bette and Rachel meeting for the first time. The day had been filled with laughter and soft gentle hugs. Bette couldn’t remember being this happy in a long time but maybe

Tina was exhausted from her flight home and she had to go to Rachel’s house to take a sleeping Angelica from her bed only to arrive home and go back to sleep. Moving quietly around the kitchen to have a late night snack before trying to get her mind calm enough to sleep Tina remembered

Bette’s mind calmed enough to take in the words that Tina was softly repeating in her ear and the rocking of her body in Tina’s embrace and the tears began to slow their descent from her eyes. Her mind tried to form words and string the words in to sentences to explain what was going

Finally her last night in town before returning home to her baby. When ever Tina had to travel missing Angelica was the most difficult part of her job. She would have loved to bring her with her on these trips but in reality a medical conference was no place for and active seven year old.

6 Months Later   Since the time Tina had last saw Bette her thoughts were never far from her but life continued on for her and Angelica. She continued to work and Angelica went to school. She had spoken to Kit one evening when she had called after dinner. Tina knew when she saw the

Bette sat in the booth in shock. She did not know what to say to the information Tina had just dropped on her. As her mind raced to form a response to Tina’s words every muscle in her body tensed and told her to run but she had not drove that afternoon and she couldn’t

Tina was awakened from her slumber by the sound of small moans and whimpers. In her first conscious thought Angelica came to mind although it had been a while since she had awakened in the middle of the night to be comforted back to sleep by Tina. Rising from the bed she grabbed the robe

Taking a couple of deep calming breaths she knocked softly on the door. She heard the sound of a small child quickly approaching from the other side then the soft admonishment of Tina’s voice reminding her of safety first before answering the door.       A few seconds later the door opened and in

Bette woke to the sound of her alarm clock. Rolling over she stretched and groaned feeling like she had not had enough sleep but knowing she had to get moving anyway. Today was the end of her 90 day probationary period as VP of finance. This job like any other Bette worked in the past

The next morning when Tina arrived at work she was informed that Bette had not come out of her room not even for breakfast this morning. Tina knew it was very important for the patients to eat regularly especially while on large milligram medication dosages multiple times per day.   “Nancy I will take care

While eating dinner Tina’s mind continued to drift back to Bette. The physical affects of her addictions were overwhelming but as severe as they were Tina could only imagine the current state of her mental health. When Tina first began questioning Bette today it appeared as if Bette was not aware of her surroundings. Time

Today was the day Bette would be arriving at Mountain Lake. She was being delivered straight from lock up where she had spent the last 4 days in the state of Georgia. Tina was really nervous at seeing her again after all this time. She had witnessed enough addicts and alcoholics while working here that

It’s funny how once our lives reach that place in time where we feel comfortable and can’t be any happier then life takes a sudden turn and shows us just how wrong we are. That’s exactly what happened to Bette and me the night of Provocations.   Bette and I always said we were each
