Fears Tears and Years
Chapter 15
While Tina remained in the kitchen
Bette walked to the front door and invited Kasey Kennard into her home. To say
this day had been surreal was an understatement. It was not even three in the
afternoon and yet Bette had already had two visitors to her home she never
expected to see within these walls”
“Come on in Kasey, Tina is in the
kitchen.” Bette said smiling at her other lunch companion.
“Hello Bette it’s nice to see you
again.”
Leading the way into her home Bette
only glanced over her shoulder once to see Kasey taking in the décor.
“Hey Kasey I hope I didn’t change
your plans too drastically when I ask Tina to invite you to lunch too.”
“No it’s fine Bette. Actually I was
just waking up from a much needed nap when Tina called me.”
Glancing in her sister’s direction
when she said her name she could easily see that she had been crying again. But
she could also tell from the relaxed facial muscles that maybe she and Bette
had worked some things out here in this house alone.
As Tina lay beside her sleeping
last night Kasey just couldn’t shut off her mind to the events that had taken
place earlier in the evening and slowly a few missing pieces of the puzzle
known as Tina Kennard began to fall in place for Kasey.
One thing was for certain from both
their reactions at seeing each other again after so long…there was still love
between the two women that even time could not erase. But she also realized
underneath all that love was a lifetime of hurt that she did not know if they
could overcome.
In the past Tina had shared with
her bits of the things Bette had done to destroy their relationship but until she
told Angie the whole truth she had not known her sister had played just as big
of a hand in hurting Bette. Although Kasey realized it took two to destroy a
relationship she had always thought most of the responsibility for the failure
of their marriage fell on Bette’s shoulders until last night.
She closely watched as Bette took
the casserole out of the oven and Tina got up to get the salad and plates Bette
had set out on the counter. Watching them work wordlessly in tandem she saw
they still were in sink more than even they realized.
