Next Time Around: 2 – (Chapter: I dont know how much more i can take)

Morning came around in silence between everyone except Spencer and Ashley. They stood at the island in the kitchen sipping their coffee and conversing over what to do next. To be honest, they were both clueless. Communication didn’t seem to be working. How can you hold a conversation with someone who won’t speak?

“Maybe we should hire a therapist.” Spencer suggested as she stared blankly at the countertop.

Brown eyes darted up to the blonde lover beside her. Ashley’s eyes got a little wider and dilated just a smidge more but enough that you could notice. “No, Spence, No.” Ashley said in an almost pleading tone. What was she pleading for? “I promised that I would not do what my parents did to me.”

“What? Put you in therapy?” Spencer questioned.

“It was more than putting me in therapy. It was my parents trying to hire someone to listen to my problems so they didn’t have to.” Ashley seemed to be on the edge this morning and she was rocking back and forth over the cliff. Ashley pushed against the countertop and turned on her heel. She poured two glasses of orange juice and removed the previously cooking eggs from the pan and separated them onto two plates along with bacon and toast. What was she doing? She never cooked for her kids, mainly because she was hardly good at it. The most she made was usually frozen waffles from a box. This was very unlike her.

Two sets of feet pattered down the stairs rapidly as Avery and Amanda made their way to the kitchen, each looking everywhere except for their parents. Ashley held out both plates, one in each hand with a hopeful smile. “I made you both breakfast.” She stated. Avery shoved past her and grabbed his bag off of the counter behind her and made his way out the door.

Amanda stared blankly at her mother. She had been crying throughout the night and no amount of makeup could cover it up. “I’m not hungry.” She said in a barely audible voice before turning around and leaving.  Ashley’s hopeful smile slowly left her face as both of her children walked away. She heavily set the plates down and tucked her curls behind one ear. A move she only did when she was upset or angry. She brought her hand up to her temple and slowly made small circles against it.
