    A to the S to the S

    Spencer looked around curiously for the source of the loud ‘‘Caw’‘ she had heard earlier. She looked over at Ashley, “Baby, did you hear that noise…it sounded kinda like a crow or something.” Ashley shrugged and continued walking towards the car. Caw! Spencer jumped and grabbed Ashley’‘s arm, “Whoa, it sounded closer that time!” Ashley looked around seemingly puzzled, “Hmm…I didn’‘t hear anything?”

    As they neared the car, Ashley bent down pretending to tie her shoe and spotted Tristan behind the mailbox near the office. She looked around making sure no one could see her before giving Tristan the secret signal. Ashley placed her thumbs on each side of her head and wiggled her fingers three times. As she got into the car, she heard the affirming Caw. Ashley smiled evilly. All is going according to plan! Arthur looked around, “Hey did you guys hear that, it sounded like a bird?” Spencer gasped, “You heard it too!”

    Arthur looked at Ashley and Spencer in the rear view mirror, “So Ash what are you up to this weekend?” Ashley scowled, “Absolutely nothing…I can’‘t go anywhere, I can’‘t call anybody, oh wait…no can’‘t do that either!” Arthur chuckled, “Come on Ash, it’‘s only for one week!” Ashley rolled her eyes, crossing her arms over her chest, mumbling “Whatever.” Spencer rubbed Ashley’‘s hand, intertwining her fingers. Ashley smiled at Spencer, squeezing her hand.

    “Dad, is Glen still coming home tomorrow?” Arthur nodded, “Yep, I spoke to Dr. Malik today, so get your beauty sleep, I’‘m sure he’‘ll want to come home as early as possible tomorrow.” Spencer smiled excitedly, “I’‘ve missed him so much, it’‘s going to be so cool to have him back home again.” Ashley rolled her eyes and made a loud retching noise. Spencer slapped Ashley’‘s arm, frowning, “Dad, can we stop by the store tomorrow morning? I think I’‘ll make him some welcome home brownies.” Arthur and Spencer both laughed when Ashley’‘s stomach rumbled loudly.

    Arthur waved goodbye to Christine, getting into the cab, “Come on Spence the meter’‘s running!” Spencer hugged Ashley again, trying not to cry, “Bye Boogie Bear, I’‘ll see you Monday.” Ashley nodded sadly. Spencer kissed her nose and slowly walked over to the cab. Ashley pouted, waving as the car drove away. She swallowed past the lump in her throat, her eyes tearing. Christine cackled, “Oh you guys are just pathetic!” Ashley scowled at her mother as Christine continued to laugh.
