CHAPTER 11
It had taken Tina an eternity to get ready, not because she was in anyway hindered by the obvious but she was keeping a certain gallery owner in her mind and she really wanted to look her best.
When Dana had arrived to give her a lift to the gallery, they had discussed the recent events in both their lives. Dana was thrilled for her friend. She really had blossomed over the past few days.
Tina shared the recent emotions she was experiencing at the thought of the gallery owner and how she could not understand how right they all felt. Dana, ever the patient one and woman of few words had simply reassured her that if it came from her heart there would be no reason to doubt any of those feelings and that they deserved explored only if she was certain as it would not be right to toy with the feelings of another person for the sake of an experiment. But Tina knew that the connection she was experiencing with Bette was beyond all this.
They set off for the opening.
Dana parked in an already crowded carpark. They made their way to the entrance and as they approached the gallery, Tina heard the incessant clicking of the cameras, the rapid opening and closing of the shutters of lenses and the high pitched sound that the flashes were making when they were recharging. They sounded like tiny little machine guns.
The press coverage for the event was in full swing. She could hear the photographers calling the names of local celebrities as they were nearing the entrance of the gallery. The cacophony of sounds this created let Tina understand that this gallery opening was a really big deal indeed and she suddenly felt very proud of the woman who had entered her life only a few days ago.
As they were progressing towards the entrance, the texture of the road under foot changed and she understood they had stepped onto a clothed surface. This fact was confirmed by Dana who informed her that they indeed were trading a Red Carpet. Tina could hear snippets of interviews as they walked along it and Bette’s name was being mentioned alongside flattering statements describing her work, her commitment to beauty and dedication to the Art Word.
