Balm For The Soul – Chapter 9

    Three Months Later

With the help of Bette’s financial attorney Tina had finally
gotten an appointment to see one of New York’s finest child custody attorneys.
Although he was very expensive he assured Tina after hearing her story that he
could win the case. He could easily prove to the court that Tina was more than capable
of taking care of Angie financially and otherwise. Although he did caution her
to expect the court to allow Henry liberal visitation with Angie.

Walking out of the courtroom that day Tina had grateful tears
running down her face. Not only was she crying happy tears because she had
gained custody of her baby back but she was so thankful to Bette for making all
of this possible. But her heart was saddened too because Bette was not there to
    share in her joy.

Tina had long since realized that her marriage to Henry had
taken place because she was still angry with Bette and had been unable to
forgive her. Yet by the time she had realized this she was in too deep…and just
decided to make the best of the situation and try and make the marriage work.
Knowing these things however, did not stop her from regretting the choices she
had made years ago to cut Bette out of her and Angie’s life. She knew it was
too late for her and Bette to start over again…so much hurt had destroyed any
hope of ever getting back together with her. Bette was decisive and very clear
that although she would always love Tina she was no longer in love with her.

But Bette’s relationship with Angie was a different story.
Late one evening as she and Angie sat on the couch she went and got a small box
down from the top of her closet and begin to explain her past to Angie. When
she showed Angie a few pictures of Bette that she had kept hidden away for
years Angie could not believe how much she and Bette favored. She went on to
tell her that she could meet Bette in person if she wanted too.

Angie was very excited by this idea so after calling Bette to
see if she wanted to see Angie they agreed to meet the following weekend.

As Bette sat in the small café in downtown Billings waiting
on Tina to arrive her mind moved from one imagined worry to another. Finally
she had to mentally shake her self or she knew she would be so nervous that she
would frighten Angie away. She knew this from everything Tina had told her
about the child. Bette never thought this day would come where she would find
her self again able to share in Angie’s life and truthfully she thought if Tina
had not needed her help it might not have happened at all. But no matter what
the reason that brought her child back into her life she was grateful…suddenly she
was finally happy…really, really happy…to have the family she had always
    dreamed of her baby Angie.

    THE END

    Comments

    1. Thanks for the story, enjoyed it. Hope you can give us an epilogue for this story. I had hoped it would go a bit longer and show us that even though Bette and Tina can not be together at the moment hopefully they would get to a better place with each other while sharing custody of Angie and also turn over child visitation with henry after all, he is not her biological father and Angie has no interest in seeing him for any reason, and the court should not make her do so. At any rate, she can cut all ties to him when she turns 18 and can also dissolve or rescind the adoption. Would love to see this occur, that would help them all. Thanks.

    2. I really liked your story, but the ending felt a little sudden. If you were going to do an epilogue that would be great, but I understand if you feel like this is the stopping point for this story. Thank you and I hope you write another story soon.

    3. sammy47 – thank you for this story. It was so touching and emotional. My heart broke for Bette but I am happy with the ending; she got her baby back. I don’t think it needs an epilogue … it ended beautifully. The hope is there that Bette and Angie will have a life together and though Bette and Tina are not a couple they are still a family. I even think there is room for Henry in Angie’s life if the parents can be civil. He’s the only parent she’s had for most of her life and I imagine she loves him. There is nothing that says he wasn’t good to her. What happened between the parents should not affect the love for the child or the child’s ability to love each parent. I hope you will come back soon with another story when time and inspiration allow.

    4. So sad to see this story end…i felt like we were just getting into the heart of it. I understand if you are too busy to maintain writing Ive been there myslef but I also wanted you to know there are those of us that really enjoy your story. Ive been a silent reader from the start and Ive also read others comments and criticisms on tina’s actions and I think its a testament to your writing that you can create such a tragic and flawed character and still see them overcome in the end so please take your criticism constructively and dont let them sway you to hurry up a story or change your plans. I hope you consider an epilogue or a new story soon.

    5. I agree this story shouldnt have ended here, im sorry with what you accomplish in this story it needs to go on to fully grasp the relationship between these…pleeaasssee add more
