    Rhaina looked at Kirk with narrowed eyes.  Did he not know?  How could he not know?

     

    “Kirk your shadow has stood between Spock and I from the first.  Have you truly been that blind Terran?”

     

    Kirk bristled at the accusation.  “Do you think that I would not have claimed him long ago if I had understood then what was truly between us?  It took me a long time to accept that I am in love with Spock.  He is my best friend.  He has been my right hand, my First Officer, my brother in arms.  It never occurred to me that he could be my lover, my mate my consort.

     

    It is no secret that I have had my share of women across the universe.  I didn’t realize that no one could fill me the way that Spock does.  I am not complete without him.  I am the man I was born to be when I am with him.  It was not until now that we ever truly spoke of what is between us. 

     

    Despite how it may seem he did not mean to hurt you or Christina.  I did not mean to hurt you either.  I dismissed his concerns about how this all would affect you and Christina.  I told him that he was not the first husband to leave his wife or father to leave the mother of his wife.  He said to me that he was the only father of Christina and the only husband of Rhaina.  I did not understand that until now.  I have been selfish in my joy and need for him. 

     

    I came here today to declare my love for him properly thinking that would make things right.  It was right for me and perhaps for you Rhaina.  I would not dishonor you publicly or privately, which is what I did in acting on my love for Spock without telling you first.  We are alike in this manner.  I sought to right that wrong without thinking again of the man I love and who he is. 

     

    You responded as I expected you would to my public and private challenge.  I did not expect Spock to be so torn though I should have.  I thought my love for him and us for each other was more important than you or Christina and that was an error.  He is the man I am in love with and as I reflect now that he is broken how else could he deal with a conflict so deep.  Spock does not give his heart to anyone for any reason lightly.”
