Chapter 28
The week leading up to my birthday dinner party was filled with anxiety. I wanted the dinner to be perfect. I really hoped Dana could be there so I called or visited her daily to check on her status. I know she must have been tired of me.. She was having a great week and it looked likely that she would positive for her to make the party. To prepare for her visit to the restaurant I made a seemingly ridiculous request. But I learned from my mother, money will buy just about anything, including the kitchen and the private room be cleansed daily for the week leading up to our visit, with hospital grade anti-microbial cleansers. I wanted to make sure Dana’s quest out that night would not risk setting her treatment and recovery back for any period of time.
It was the end of the month and we would be changing rotations. I was happy to see my time on the Oncology unit end. It was incredibly depressing to see people pushed to the extreme ends of drug toxicity in the hopes to cure their cancer. Sometimes it worked, but with a great price to the survivor. But other times, it just seemed to go on and on to the hopeless end. As strange as it seemed, after Oncology and the ICU, I welcomed my return to the vigor of the general medical floor. I guess time had made me forget the initial pain. To my joy, Bette was heading back there too. I was incredibly excited about working with her again. I have to laugh to think, what a difference several months made. At the beginning of that year I didn’t want anything to do with her but by December, I was actually looking forward to working with her.
The one thing I remained down about leading up to the party was that Bette was not going to be at there. She had offered to stop in for a short time but I always hated these pass-bys. Why bother at all. I hoped by some miraculous means that Rick’s firm’s Christmas party would be canceled and Bette would make it to my party but then again, it meant Rick would be there too. So maybe I didn’t want that after all. As excited as I was about the party, I was simply ecstatic about the purchase of my condo. I didn’t tell anyone about my new place. I couldn’t wait to have a dinner party there, but before that, I wanted to bring Bette back and surprise her with it. I thought she would be thrilled about it and I was excited to move in, make it my own and bring her back to see the expression on her face when I showed it to her. I thought Carmen and Sean would see instant party and Lara of course would love the kitchen. I actually looked forward to cooking up at few things in the kitchen with Lara. I thought maybe I could even convince her to get her father to try out a few new recipes on a few residents who might not have otherwise been the time or means to enjoy fine dining.

S sorry I am commenting this late, but I read it early in the morning before I went to work. And now I have been answering the questions over at the FanFicReaders…I see that Helena was looking forward to her birthday and made sure that all would be clean if Dana would make it to her party. But for her she wanted Bette and it seems that Bette was falling for Helena but IMO scared. But does Helena want Bette cause she is hard to get or cause she has fallen for Bette Porter. I do hope cause she has fallen for her and not just want her and then throw her away like many of the women that have passed thru her life. Great chapter S!

Helena might be setting herself up for a fall. Is Bette really into her or is she just getting caught up in the attention and kindness Helena is giving her. Rick seems to be kinda anal and maybe Bette is findig solace in Helena. IMO Helena needs to not go there with Bette because she’s in a relationship. I’m getting the impression that Helena has no respect for relationships and other peoples space. She seems to think she’s entitled to what ever she wants and not thinking about others involved.
Hey Squirl, So sorry Ive missed out on a few chapters but Im back now…How sweet of Bette with those cupcakes, I cant wait for more of Bette. I think that her fella overreacted you know what I cant even remember his name? LOL. As for Helena I knew she would pursue Bette I mean who wouldnt but will Bette fall for her charms it seems she already is though… Great work Squirl can’t wait for more PPVS
Hello My Passionate Friend… I have so missed commenting on your story… I completely love the subtleties that you bring out within each and everyone scene you illustrate with your masterful palliate of words… they are never wasted they only bring out the rawness of the emotions… it seems that our Miss Bette Porter might be finding herself playing tug a war with her feelings coming from a family environment like she did she never really had a lot of female companionships that would allow her to properly understand that nuances of how ‘their’ minds worked… she was raised by a very hard and driven ‘father’ and a lot of those characteristics tend to rub off but her she is in an environment that ‘he’ has no control over and in a way she has found her freedom at last… she still has the morals to understand her ‘choices’ but now she in in a place where it is hers to choose… her tenderness towards Helena is so very cute and so very fitting of her character… baking cakes and such is something she would have missed out on in her childhood so its like she is developing those childhood bonds within the context of her adult relationships… up to and unto the possibilities of ‘falling’ in love with her ‘best’ friend… I cannot wait to see just how far you take us… and I stand by my 60-80 plus chapter thingie… oh and I have a story to tell you about my vacation… its rather surreal in the sense that you were there with me on paper if not in flesh lol… love and hugs my passionate friend, your loyal subject and recipient of the honors of Squirlology PhD :D… JC (Latin Nephew to those Salsa Angels, Cuzzie to the ever inspiring Eunichick, Cuzzie to the ever amazing Patty, Proud Cuzzie to my Muse TCuz and personal fanner to the ever incredible Deean)

Wow, well worth the extra days wait, I just hate it when my favorite authors have a real life and can’t post for me, LOL. Can someone send Dr. Porter a memo saying: Tell Rick to clean the kitchen up and Bette will be home latter, see then she could have stayed and “chatted” for a while longer. Yea, Yea, Hels is going to have to make up for that condo story because Bette felt bad for her, geeze how big of a hat do you think it will take to collect millions of $$? Ahem! Well. We didn’t get Bette’s point of view, but it sounds like she may have a few things of her own to think about. So I finally snagged a scanning job! Echos AND vascular. Have to move to Dayton, which makes me sad for my mother’s sake, but c’est la vie. Paychecks, here I come!

I cannot control myself… ::DROOL:: ::DROOL:: ::DROOL:: Ahhhhhh… It was my precious Belena… if only for a moment; and then that blasted phone had to ring. ::CURSES:: Bestill my heart. The marvelous kiss that almost was. From now on Squirl all Belena moments must include no pagers, no cell phones, locked doors, and no overhead pages. Geezzz… talk about the ultimate tease. I was virtually on the edge of my seat waiting for their precious lips to meet. Bette certainly became rattled when she found out she had disappointed Rick. I wonder if Helena suspects what I do about the old Rickster??? I loved that Helena hid her penthouse purchase from Bette – I hope that means you intend to tantalize us with a personal housewarming party for two (I’m starting the begging process now). The cupcakes were perfect – particularly given that they were from Bette’s personal kitchen. I wonder what next month’s rotations will bring? Dare I plead for more Belena???
