Friendship Foundation Chapter 19
Story written on January 28, 2013 by justkeepswimming.
"This is a nice surprise," Bette stood from behind her desk and made her way over to Tina for a hug. "I was going to step out but James said he had to talk to me."
"That James," Tina said. "So reliable. He promised he would keep you here and not give me up."
"A conspiracy?" Bette asked. "Well played."
They both took seats in the chairs that faced Bette’s desk.
"When I looked up where my dinner meeting was, I realized I’d be close enough for a surprise hello," Tina said. "I only had to make sure you’d be here."
"How long can you stay?"
"Half an hour or so," Tina replied. "And only if that’s not an imposition. Why were you going to leave the gallery?"
"Honestly – I was going to sit in my car for some guaranteed solitude. I wasn’t going to leave the parking lot."
"Everything okay?" Tina asked.
"Just busy," Bette replied. "And that’s a good thing. But I’m looking forward to the weekend a little bit more than I usually do. These dinners take up more time than you’d expect."
The buzzer on Bette’s intercom sounded. She reached towards the desk to answer James’s call.
"Eric Madison is on line two for you," James offered. "Would you like me to take a message?"
Bette glanced over at Tina who shrugged her shoulders in reply. She had no idea why he was calling
"No, I’ll take the call," Bette said. "But tell him you caught me just before going into a meeting so I can make it short."
"You got it," James replied. "Pick up when it’s flashing – I’ll be done."
Bette leaned on the edge of her desk.
"I’d rather talk to him now instead of wondering why he called," she explained.
She saw the light on her phone flash and picked up.
"Eric, how can I help you?" she spoke with her usual cheerful tone.
"I won’t keep you, Bette, I know you’re busy," he said. "I’m sure you’re aware that Tina and I are no longer together."
"She told me," Bette replied. She grimaced slightly, not really knowing what to say to him.

Beautiful chapter
Don’t you just love Bette?
Awww, the softer side of Bette, I like it — sweet chapter. Back to work for the ladies — game faced, I’m sure, and then some night time talking, um just talking? ; ) I hope your Monday was all it could be.
Pitch perfect tone, dialogue. They’re clicking. Thanks!
finally all caught up. Love the story and your notes. Thank you for sharing with us your wit and talent
Swimmie, thanks for this update. My felt my B/T waning this weekend and I needed something to get it back going. Or maybe I was going through JKS story withdrawals…that must be it. Have the best Monday.
This chapter really resonated w/me. I could feel Tina’s turmoil and Bette’s attempt at empathy. Both were very real. Tina’s at the precipice. Scary, exciting emotions. Very well written , swimmie. Is this determination of yours to make this the best Monday in five years, just positive thinking or is something monumental about to occur?
So good. Thanks for the update. I like them both so much
I hope that convo was really that pure and that Eric had no other motives….love the story pps
Their relationship is gaining depth. And their friendship is getting stronger. Thanks for the update.
Great update thank you
Love this story and its pace. I like how they aren’t rushing things….Tina needs time for everything to sink in so to speak. I know Bette will be gentle with her and can’t wait for more. :)
”I’m going to make this the best Monday I’ve had in the last five years. It all starts now.” – sounds good, congrats!
Their relationship seems to strengthen and deepen with each passing day. Thanks for taking the time to post and I hope your Monday was awesome. :)
Thanks for the great update. Sure hope this “best Monday feeling you’ve had in 5 years” is a result of the wonderful weekend you had. So glad that Tina just happened to be close to the gallery and Bette was available. Everything seems to be settling in for Tina to recognize that her life is changing, and she has such deep feelings for Bette and that is who she is “a woman loving another woman” I only hope she thinks its for the better and not the other way round. Thanks so much for posting. Have a great week.
So good
