    Friendship Foundation Chapter 19

"You’re the same person you’ve always been," Bette said. "It’s a time of discovery. It’s exciting and scary and sometimes overwhelming. It’s that way for everyone."
"I thought we’d have a chance to visit and now I’m sitting in your office on the verge of tears."
"How likely was it that he’d call just when you happen to be here? It was bound to bring up some emotion," Bette went on to assure her.  "And I’ve been the person on the verge of tears too. I’ve been the person in tears. Heaving, snot producing, gut wrenching sobs even."
"Sounds fantastic, sign me up," Tina was able to offer a slight smile after Bette’s litany of descriptors was issued.
"Everything you’re feeling is normal," Bette said. "The questions, the confusion, wondering if this is who you really are."
Tina lifted her head and met Bette’s eyes with a confident gaze.
"I think this is who I really am."
"Come back here after your dinner," Bette made the offer again. "And stay with me tonight."
"I’ll have to leave really early to go home and change before work," Tina said.
"I’ll get up with you," Bette offered. "And I’ll stay up with you tonight for as long as you want to talk."
"That would probably be good," Tina said.
Bette passed her a box of tissues and Tina took two, one of which she tucked into the side pocket of her purse before blowing her nose with the other.
"Can I get you some water or anything?" Bette asked.
"No, I have to get going," Tina sighed. "Sorry for all the emotion…"
"Tee, I’m only sorry you can’t stay for the dinner," Bette said. "There’s nothing you need to apologize for. It was a good thing Eric called when you were here. There must have been a reason."
"Thanks," Tina said as she stood. "I’ll let you get back to work."
"Find me when you get here," Bette said. "No matter what I’m doing or who I’m talking to."
"I will," Tina reached for her hand and held her fingers.
Bette curled her fingers around Tina’s and with a gentle persuasion brought her closer.
"I’m glad you came by," Bette turned her head towards Tina but wasn’t going to initiate a kiss. Tina could if she wanted to.
With her free hand on the side of Bette’s face, and Bette still leaning on the edge of the desk, Tina appeared taller. She let her lips rest first by Bette’s temple, and felt the pulse of her heartbeat under the skin before moving to her mouth. Close, but their lips were not quite touching.
"I’ll see you later," Tina said quietly.
"Wish you could stay," Bette replied.
As the last word was spoken, Tina finally kissed her. Bette pulled her closer, feeling for the first time an ache that eluded description. It wasn’t just about want. It was about aspiring to bring happiness to someone who meant so very much to her.

    1. Awww, the softer side of Bette, I like it — sweet chapter. Back to work for the ladies — game faced, I’m sure, and then some night time talking, um just talking? ; ) I hope your Monday was all it could be.

    2. Swimmie, thanks for this update. My felt my B/T waning this weekend and I needed something to get it back going. Or maybe I was going through JKS story withdrawals…that must be it. Have the best Monday.

    3. This chapter really resonated w/me. I could feel Tina’s turmoil and Bette’s attempt at empathy. Both were very real. Tina’s at the precipice. Scary, exciting emotions. Very well written , swimmie. Is this determination of yours to make this the best Monday in five years, just positive thinking or is something monumental about to occur?

    4. Love this story and its pace. I like how they aren’t rushing things….Tina needs time for everything to sink in so to speak. I know Bette will be gentle with her and can’t wait for more. :)

    5. Thanks for the great update. Sure hope this “best Monday feeling you’ve had in 5 years” is a result of the wonderful weekend you had. So glad that Tina just happened to be close to the gallery and Bette was available. Everything seems to be settling in for Tina to recognize that her life is changing, and she has such deep feelings for Bette and that is who she is “a woman loving another woman” I only hope she thinks its for the better and not the other way round. Thanks so much for posting. Have a great week.
