    Interesting Curves 9 (formerly Untitled)

Bette held the front passenger side door of her car open for Tina, closing the door as Tina tossed her bag into the back seat of the Saab.

Asking herself for the fiftieth time what she was doing in the midst of this drama, Bette got in and started driving.

The ride was in silence. No radio. Neither women spoke. Every once in a while, Bette would steal a peek at Tina; her gaze was fixed straight ahead, but her eyes seemed unfocused. It appeared to her that the blonde woman was barely holding it together.

‘Shit,’ Bette thought. She didn’t want to take Tina home.

Actually, she did want to take Tina home. That was the problem. The attraction she felt was palpable but Bette wasn’t sure exactly where Tina was at. Was she an experiment? Did Tina possibly feel the same? Was this a rebound experience? So many questions.

In the passenger seat, Tina’s thoughts were churning through the ramifications of the afternoon. Now there was no going back. No telling Eric that she was confused. And Bette. What must Bette think of her, the way she threw herself at the other woman?

Not that she regretted a moment of the time they’d spent. Bette at least felt enough for her to drive her, which Tina appreciated since she felt far too shaky to drive herself. Besides, where the hell would she go? She didn’t feel like telling most of her friends that she’d dumped her boyfriend to make out with a woman. Many of her friends would enjoy the salacious aspect, but would they understand the real attraction that she felt for the brunette?

The attraction was why Tina reached out to Bette in the first place. She wanted to know if there could be something between them. At this point, that seemed unlikely. She’d forced Bette to wade through enough of her shit. Eric was Bette’s client. Way to go, Tina. Piss off her clients, fuck with her business; that’s a way to get her attention.

The car stopped at a parking lot next to the beach.

After shutting off the engine, Bette turned towards Tina. “We need to talk.”

“I know.” Tina was still not making eye contact; still staring straight ahead.

Bette sat for a moment in the uncomfortable silence.

    “Bette?”

    “Yes?”

“Can we sit on the beach? The surf, it helps to relax me.”

“Of course.” They exited the car. Bette pulled a spare blanket that she kept in the trunk, and the women headed closer to the water’s edge, towards the sunset.

They walked side-by-side. Close, but not touching. As they did, each woman had the same thought. “Fuck! I’ll never see her again.”

    (self-fulfilling prophecies?)

    1. “When will I see you again” or “Lay the blanket on the ground” “Sometimes you can’t make it on your own” “Whos going to drive you home tonight” I could go on forever…….gimme! gime! gime! gimme ! another chapter……..please!

    2. Hey Pseud, Thank you for continuing this tempting tale. Shame that it was so torturously short. The full spectrum of emotions are running through Bette and Tina’s heads right now. Each are asking themselves if this is real and if they are doing the right thing. Yes, in their hearts, not so certain in their heads. I just can’t wait for them to talk things through and action on this attraction. More please, pretty please. Your Loyal Fan and complete addict.

    3. “Is you is or is you ain’t my baby?”… I think we all love the story, so I guess it’s just a matter of how inspired you are to continue it. If you feel like it’s run its course, then that’s better than writing anything just to satisfy a very eager audience (like yours truly). Just go with the flow ;)

    4. No, we are talking about Bette and Tina here…they were made for each other…they just need to communicate their concerns. Pseud, you are destined to finish this story no matter what you say at the end of each chapter!

    5. First…that wasn’t even long enough. Just a tease. I say “no” to never seeing each other again…they are just scared. pps…pretty please with a cherry on top? ; )

    6. They so need to talk. Let each other know what the other is feelilng. See where it goes. I can totally understand and respect that your going to be busy, but do you think we could get a bit more next update. PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE|

    7. Nope. No self-fulfilling prophecies! They’re going to have a talk, maybe more, yes? Yes. I’ll be looking for your next, blissfully optimistic post, pseud. grazie!

    8. What the hell was that? Are they both on crack? There’s no way they won’t see each other again. It’s like Bette is a magnet and Tina is metal or vice versa. Ya dig? PPS!
