Life Changes Unexpectedly – Chapter 40

“Right before we left philly, I got an email from Haley Johnson.” Bette says.

“Okay, who is she?” Tina asks curiously.

“She’s my niece I suppose. She’s Caitlin’s sisters oldest daughter.” Bette replies and waits for Tina’s reaction.

“Okay? What did she want?” Tina asks with a soft voice.

“She misses me and wants to meet. And she’s now 15 years old.” Bette says.

“Yeah? Where does she live?” Tina asks with a smile.

“Los Angeles. She and her younger brother and Caitlin’s sister moved out there right before the accident.” Bette says.

    “Where you close?” Tina asks.

“Yeah, we were. They lived basically down the street. Me and Caitlin babysat all the time. I miss them.” Bette says with a sad smile.

“Then why don’t you set up a meeting when we get there? You don’t need my approval to that babe. They are your family. Just because you lost Caitlin, doesn’t mean you need to loose them too. But I appreciate that you talked to me about it. Thank you.” Tina says and takes Bette’s hand a softly squeeze it. “Does they know about me?” She adds.

“No, but that’s only because I haven’t talked to them in over a year. But I would like for you to meet them too. That way they will see that I’m okay.” Bette says with a bright smile.

“Good. How old is the little brother?” Tina asks.

“He is two years older than Evan would’ve been, So he’s seven now.” Bette replies.

Tina smiles lovingly at Bette and continues eating.

“I actually have something to tell you too.” Tina says.

“What?” It’s now Bette’s time to be curious.

“Well, I guess I should’ve said something sooner, but I just didn’t know what I wanted and if it was possible and so on, so I waited until I had some more answers.” Tina starts.

    “About what?” Bette asks again.

“About the possibility of us moving to Los Angeles sooner.” Tina says and looks at Bette for her reaction.

“What?” Bette asks a little shocked.

“I know. But I’ve been thinking lately. The kind of work I want to get into, isn’t here on the east coast. It’s in California. And also UCLA is a great film school. So I had the admissions office at school check the possibility of transferring to UCLA.” Tina says.

    “And?” Bette asks.

“Well, there is a great possibility of that. What set me onto the idea was the fact that my teacher sent a recommendation letter to a film studio in Los Angeles for an intern job, and it turns out that I got it. I haven’t replied to it yet, but my teacher says I have about three weeks to decide.” Tina says.

“Wow, you’ve been busy.” Bette says, suddenly a little insecure.

“I’m sorry, but I just wanted to check the possibility of transferring. The internship is my teacher, I didn’t even know about it until I was handed the envelope with the reply of his application.” Tina says.

“I don’t know what to say.” Bette says.

"Please don’t say you’re mad." Tina says, holding her breath.

"I’m not mad." Bette replies with a slight smile.

    1. Very interesting update. What is Bette thinking and why all of a sudden is she being…overly cautious. She was gung ho at first to buy a house and go to LA now that Tina mentions that she could possibly go earlier, Bette seems a little reticent. Just a tad curious, I think. Thanks for posting.
