Chapter 2
“No Tina…absolutely not…LIZ PUT THAT DOWN!”
Bette ran a shaky hand through her hair as she took a deep breath and tried to calm down. Tina huffed at Bette’s harsh tone and resumed her research on places where they could have the ceremony. Liz frowned at her mom’s angry tone and put the sample flower bouquet down gently. The Porter-Kennard household had been transformed into a wedding shop and Liz couldn’t seem to stop getting yelled at for touching everything. As far as Liz could tell there was way too much going on for just her mommies to handle so she enlisted her younger brother to help her make sure everything they needed was on hand. She and Sky had spent countless hours over the past week inspecting all of the goods and spied on their mommies and aunties as they hemmed and hawed over all the details trying to figure out why everyone seemed so uptight over this event.
“What about Malibu Bette?”
“Malibu could be nice I guess. What about Newport Beach?”
“Newport is too expensive babe.”
“And Malibu isn’t?”
Tina rolled her eyes and huffed loudly. She didn’t understand how Bette Porter could drop sixty thousand dollars on a new car without batting an eye yet she was nitpicking on the expenses for their renewal ceremony. Tina went back to her computer searching for somewhere that would be a compromise that Bette could agree on. Tina scrolled down the page and smiled. She’d found it.
“Check this out Bette. How about here?”
Bette walked over to where Tina was sitting at the table and peered over her shoulder at the computer screen. La Venta Inn in Palos Verdes Estates. Bette smiled.
“Looks perfect. I know one of the managers there…I can give him a call to see what’s available.”
“Perfect. While you do that I’m going to take Liz and meet Alice at the tailors for her fitting. Do you mind watching Sky?”
“I’ll be fine babe.”
Tina smiled and leaned into Bette for a quick kiss before jumping up and grabbing her phone. She dialed Alice’s number.
RING RING
“Hello?”
“Hey Al…we’re ready here…can you meet us in about an hour?”

Aw, leave the kid alone. She’s not doing anything bad, and Tina she have a bit more of an open mind about it. I was never big on wearing dresses, and was so happy when they allowed us to wear pants at school, (I know I just dated myself). After that I can name the next 3 times I wore a dress, and they were the last.
this story cracked me up..i haven’t laughed this hard in a long time!!!! poor Bob..lmao….can’t wait for more
Dang, Liz and I must be related somehow. That dress thing drove me crazy until I was in high school. Loved how Bette was able to talk with Tina and show her that Liz is a strong young lady because of who she has been taught to be.
I am looking forward to Liz’s challenge. I know it would’ve been near impossible to get me in a dress at 11. Well there was that one mini skirt to show off the long legs I’d discovered. Hey, I think that was the last girlie type thing I did. LOL!
The tomboy in me can relate to hating wearing a dress when I was younger. Now, I’m more of a skirt woman than dreses but I still love my jeans, t-shirts & flip-flops! I think Tina has some anxiety about her daughters image and what possible “stereotype” she will be boxed in as she grows. I’m sure it’s possible for a gay couple to raise kids and neither be gay. I have a son, and people assume I’m raising him to be gay… the stupidity of some people. Anyway, I’m so glad your back writing and I can’t wait to see where this story leads.
U have to write more of this please ….
Great story; love Liz. PPS
good luck… i hate the way my daughter dresses… and her hair… please… i can’t wait to see what liz has planned for her moms… PPS
Welcome back!!!!!! I have missed this story. This whole dress debacle reminds me of myself at Liz’s age….can’t wait to see how she gets over on her moms!I am a little surprised that its Tina who is more concerned about her appearance…..Bette must be mellowing a bit!
Welcome back!! I personally am with Liz on this dress thing. As a lesbian I would think that Tina would be more sensitive to stereotypes between the genders. Forcing her daughter to put on a dress, even if for a special occasion tells Liz that no matter how she wants to dress and express herself, if she wants people to thing she is ‘pretty’, the only way to do that is to wear a dress! Not a good idea to put into a girl’s head at only ten. I love your writing and am glad to see you back!
i always hated wearing dresses, dont get why tina is bent out of shape of how her dd dresses. she is only… there must a reason why??? :)
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw your name!!! Please profusely thank whoever talked you into coming back!!! Starting Back at One…Second and Third Chances are still two of my favorite stories to read, and I am thrilled to see you back, not only for me, but for all the newer readers to this site. What kids seems to forgetis they may want to dress one way,yet they still live at home, and the Moms still rules. Angie will learn to do thing their way and get her way most of the time.
