Love Will Lead You Back – Chapter 8

Bette felt defeated. Tina was no longer her. She didn’t see the love in Tina’s eyes for her, instead they were replaced by fear, mistrust, and detest. Bette can only hope the woman Tina is seeing at the moment is better than her. She didn’t want to give up on Tina but she knows Tina deserve happiness with someone who will treat her kindly, not a cheating monster like her.

After settling her belongings in her hotel’s room Bette went downstairs to the bar and drank all night. She woke up the next morning with a horrible hangover. But didn’t have a choice except to get her ass up and go meet Helena Peabody. She already lost Tina; she couldn’t afford to do the same to her job. Bette was a workaholic, the past few years her job was more important to her than Tina – and Tina felt it, after all Bette did cancel countless dinner dates with her.

Bette walked up the steps of a building. She buzzed the intercom at the door.

“Morning, Peabody Foundation, how can I help?”

“It’s Bette Porter for Helena Peabody.”

The door buzzed and Bette let herself into the building. Helena’s secretary showed Bette in. Bette entered Helena’s office and found her sitting at her desk, typing on her laptop. Bette cleared her throat to get Helena’s attention. Helena looked up. She smiled and closed the laptop.

“Bette Porter,” she said extending her hand.

“Nice to meet you. Thank you so much for seeing me,” said Bette shaking her hand.

    “Remind me again, you’re with…?”

“The California Arts Center,” she said taking a seat.

“Our museum has a longstanding relationship with the Peabody Foundation.”

“We always funded the arts very generously. I’m glad you benefited.”

“We did. Immensely. But I hope you’re not speaking in the past-tense,” she said her smile fading away.

“You know, your mother was a great supporter of ours, she helped to fund three to five projects a year,” she continued.

“My mother’s retired,” said Helena and was more than happy to take over when Peggy told. She didn’t want to build on her mother’s legacy but rather create her own. One thing about her mother was that she knew when to let go and trust that everything will be okay at the hand of her daughter.

    1. This is just awful, everything is going to hell in a handbasket for our girls. Bette should be crying for Tina and herself. Yes, their lives have changed and are about to get much worse. Thanks for posting.

    2. I’ve found that in the majority of the stories I read here, Tina is rarely an equal to her partner. She’s either a damsel in distress or “the enemy”. It’s nice to read a story in which she’s neither of the two. I just hope Bette doesn’t go through too much pain before she gets better. Please don’t have Helena gunning for Bette or her job. She’s going through enough pain & self-loathing with the breakup. Tina & Helena’s friendship should blossom but not into a romance. At least not yet. They truly seem to like one another but now is far too soon to take that step. Thanks and please continue.

    3. BETTE IS AN ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!she shouls suffer like tina didgoing out and fucking another worman b/c she lost money for her dear CACbette needs to think whats truly matters to her

    4. The chapter summary says it all… Bette’s on a totally destructive path. Helena might let it slip to Tina that she saw Bette in NY, or she might not. Either way, Bette’s screwed, likely for the funding as well as for any hope of some sort of reconciliation with Tina. I think Bette still has even further to fall, sadly. Thanks for the post, Kim. :)

    5. OMG Alice is so going to tell Tina. The tibette gap will now stretch into a grand canyon. I love the pace of this story, and don’t worry about the sex scene you did great. Still loving it, thank you kimzero :)
