Chapter 21

　

“Why is mommy coming home today ?”

Bette was sitting with Angie waiting for Tina to arrive at JFK airport. Tina had been due back in New York at 3:30am but her flight had not taken off from LA for three hours which was why Bette had been able to get dressed, get Angie out or bed and drive to the airport to meet Tina at a reasonable time. She had spent a restless night missing her lover and waiting for news of Tina’s delayed flight so although she was tired she was as excited as Angie.

“Mommy has been packing up your old house and putting it up for sale “

That would have been boring “

“That’s why momma thought you would be better off with me “

“We have had a great time “

“We have – momma will be tired so we will go somewhere for a big breakfast then momma might want to have a sleep. So you and I can go shopping for things for when you start school”

“Do you think momma will like her Christmas presents ?”

“I think so – remember – its our secret “

Angie nodded and yawned “Its early “

Bette looked at her watch – 7am

“You usually wake up around now “

“I have been up for hours”

“Don’t exaggerate – momma will love seeing us here waiting for her”

“She said she has missed us “

“She has – like we have missed her”

Bette reached into her bag and handed Angie a carton of juice which she accepted along with a cereal bar

“Can I still have a breakfast if I eat this ?”

“Of course you can sweetheart “

Angie was sitting beside Bette swinging her feet on the plastic seating – Bette knew that Tina’s flight had

landed – she didn’t want to tell Angie until she was sure that the passengers had disembarked. Bette would have happily waited all day to see Tina but Angie was naturally less patient. Bette smiled at Angie – she was wearing jeans and a new black polo neck sweater that Bette had bought her, added to the warm jacket she was wearing Bette just thought that Angie looked so lovely. Bette drifted off in daydreams about her lover and their fantastic daughter
