    The One Who Cared

Sometimes I wonder how I ended up in this predicament as I ran through the dark woods holding the good doctor’s hand firmly. She was struggling to keep up as I had superior strength and speed, she was after all only human. Of course it didn’t help that the heavy rain was pounding on our heads and the thick mud was gripping at our feet.

I heard her heavy breathing it was a sound I’ve grown to love especially when she was beneath me writhing in pleasure. I also knew that sound indicated that she was on the verge of collapse, I pulled her forward hard and hid behind a tree.

We could only rest for a little while, the wolf was on our trail and he knew my scent really well. I turned towards the tired human doctor who sat beside me and struggled to catch her breath.

"I won’t let them hurt you," I said.

"How can you stop them?" she said through heavy pants.

"I am a Fae, I have super human powers," I said, "I can take them."

"Tina, they are Fae too," she said softly, "they have powers just as strong as yours."

"Bette, I can’t lose you!" I said more urgently.

"And I can’t lose you either Tina, but Donovan knows your scent, he will find us," Bette said.

"But he’s my friend, maybe he’ll help," I said.

"We’ve broken too many rules already," she said sadly.

    "How many?" I asked.

"You wanna talk about that now?" Bette said we gotta keep running.

"Bette, if Donovan doesn’t find us another Fae will," I said. "There’s so many Fae that specialized in finding people. There’s the trackers who can smell you from miles away, there’s the Golden Witch who can give you a magical egg to pinpoint the exact location of what you’re looking for…"

"Okay, I get it," Bette said. "So we might as well let them catch us."

"It was worth a try," I said, "but don’t you think I’m ever giving up."

"I won’t give up either," Bette said.

"I rather Donovan find us than anyone else," I said.

    "Me too," Bette agreed.

"So," I said, "how many rules did I break?"

"Well let’s see," Bette said sighing deeply, "you were required to stay in the city so the Elders could keep an eye on you like some sort of parole."
