    When Hope is Lost,

    She would drop him off in the mornings at school after walking him into the building. They’d share a hug goodbye and off he’d go to class. After school got out about three o’clock, she‘d pick him up and then they’d both go back to the gallery where he’d take a nap and then do some reading in his books from his shelf in Bette’s office. If he had time, he’d either sketch or do some painting afterwards. He loved spending time at the gallery as they all loved to talk about art and he loved to learn about it.

    By this time, Allyn loved having him come in the afternoons and the two of them would spend some time together as she taught him different techniques of painting while doing his pieces and also helped him improve with his drawing. She also saw his brilliance in the world of art and wanted to mentor him. The best part for her was the fact that he soaked up everything she taught him like a sponge.

    She loved his style of painting with his use of colors and shapes and when he gave her some of his pieces as a thank you, she had them professionally framed and hung in her office. She laughed every time someone offered to buy them for large amounts of money thinking that they were from some famous artist.

    Bette appreciated that it was fine with Allyn that he came in the afternoons to the gallery. She didn’t worry about him as he was a very happy guy with lots of people that cared about him in his life. He and the receptionist, Casey played off each other, which caused the others plenty of giggles. She would pick him up from school if Bette and Allyn were busy with a project. She loved the break as did he when she picked him up.

    When five-thirty appeared, Bette and he would pack up their things and would walk out the door of the gallery and go to the curb to catch a taxi home or if they felt like it, they’d walk down to get a bus or a ride on the subway. He liked learning how to use the different modes of transportation. She loved having him as her son for the enrichment he brought into her life.

    What also started to become a part of their schedule was therapy for him. When Bette had taken him in for a checkup, his doctor suggested that he could use physical, occupational and speech therapy sessions to strengthen his weaknesses. If they worked on them now he would be all the better for it as he aged. So on Tuesday mornings, he went into a building close to the gallery and had an hour of each therapy.

    Bette noticed that his posturing, movement and speech were all improving and it was increasing his confidence with his self-image. He also received inserts for his shoes to help him walk better. With all of his improvement, his self-esteem and confidence grew and his was becoming happier within himself. His speech was much clearer and others didn’t make him feel inferior with their looks or teases as often.

    His love for his mom grew exponentially the longer they spent together as family. Having him as a son assisted Bette’s self-confidence level to also increase. With her Life Coach’s assistance she was becoming a confident and strong woman within herself. Her ego was much smaller than it had ever been and she was respectful of others thoughts and feelings. She was such a better team player than ever before.

    The one thing that mother and son loved to do in the mornings and at night, was prepare meals together. They had found some good cookbooks that made cooking easy and they both wanted to learn to do it better. So, they made sure that they had all the ingredients that they’d need for the week as they did their meal planning on Sunday mornings before grocery shopping. Ozzie and Bette were becoming an incredible family team together.

    1. Wonderful update. You have created an amazing little guy to be Ozzie. How old is he, 4 or 5, and on the streets of NYC alone. God that’s terrible. so happy he helped Bette and they have gone on to help each other and love each other. He gets to be a little boy again and she gets to be the mother she has always wanted to be. This is a wonderful story for the ending of one year and the beginning of the new year, a new life, a new love for a child and for herself. Although I do hope “our girls” can get back together again. Thanks for sharing this wonderful story with us.

    2. bumsue thank you for the story and the frequent updates. You’re doing a great job with this storyline. I’m always torn when I read stories where Bette loses EVERYTHING and EVERYONE in her life for a single mistake and everyone rallies around Tina who never suffers any recrimination. Tina always has an excuse and everyone including Bette forgives her and takes her back without ever holding her to the same accountability and standards. Bette always has to hit rock bottom before anyone gives a crap about her. Tina’s love is conditional and she only wants Bette back when she sees what a good thing she had. She didn’t give any thought to the baby and was willing to throw Bette away without an afterthought. Now she wants her back? What for so she can guilt her into taking care of the baby she didn’t know about? I know it’s tragic for both of them, and I know Bette would suffer if she never knew about Tina’s baby but I don’t think Bette should just give up everything she has in NY and go back to Tina in LA because of the baby. Maybe Tina needs to make some real sacrifices and move her life to NY and then work to rebuild a family with Bette and Ozzie when she’s earned her place back in Bette’s heart. Tina has all of the friends and Peabody’s looking out for her. Bette has Ozzie and Allyn Barnes. She’s making an incredible life for her little boy, and she’s regaining her career success and rebuilding her life. Looking forward to the adventure but let Tina do the work. It’s not up to Peggy or Kit or anyone else to bring Bette back to her.

    3. Hey Sue thanks for 2 great updates.I love the way Bette is rebuilding her life with the loveable Ozzie.Tina has a way to go i think before Bette lets her back into her life again.Its going to be very interesting to see how Tina achieves this.Really loving your story it gets better with every update.PPVS

    4. Ozzie is adorable and I’m so glad Bette has found him. I still hope at some point Tina and Bette will get back together and build a better relationship. Thanks and Happy New Year!

    5. Maybe Peggy or one of her family will hear something… or even the lawyer. At least Bette and Ozzie are happy in the meantime. Thanks for the chapter. :)

    6. How nice it its to see one of the most generous readers and supporters of this site finally taking her shot in writing and what a great story! I love how Bette and Ozzie found each other…two lonely and shattered souls brought together by fate to create a life full of hope, joy and love. As for Tina, she fucked up real bad and it will take ginormous effort on her part to get the love of her life back and im sure its not going to be so interesting to read. Bumsue thanks for all your support and hope that 2013 brings your peace, happiness and all good thngs! Now this time its my turn to say this… Please post soon!(-;

    7. ***Oops sorry for the typo error just got back fr the hospital and im still a little bit dizzy LoL!
