The Absence of One chapter 37
Tina hurried to start her car, following the departing vehicle not too far behind. Once or twice, she was sure Bette had spotted her. They turned onto the street she once called home, and Tina was sure her presence was noted.
She parked her car right behind Bette’s SUV, knowing her ex-wife was watching her intently. Taking a deep breath, Tina squared her shoulders and headed for the house. “Bette.”
Her eyes took in the woman in front of her. “Like a dog with a bone, huh?”
Tina rolled her eyes, following Bette into the house. She waited until they were in the house before advancing toward the woman. “What’s wrong with trying again?”
Bette stayed silent. She deposited her briefcase on her desk, then turned back to face Tina. “Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome. I’m just trying to spare everyone, Tina.”
It was an argument she had heard before. “Are you afraid that one of us will mess up or are you afraid of getting everything?”
“Does it matter?”
The answer irked Tina. “Yes it does, especially when Barbara Grisham is hovering nearby.”
“We’ve had this conversation before, Tina,” Bette rubbed her forehead and sighed. “Didn’t we agree to focus on Angelica and nothing else?”
“I did a risk-benefit analysis after that and decided the odds are with us.”
A succinct eyebrow went up at her answer. “You’re only doing this because of Barbara.”
When Tina did not reply, Bette continued. “Of course, why didn’t I realize it earlier? What, you can’t have me, so nobody can? Or maybe, you can’t stand to see me with someone?”
“That’s bullshit and you know it, Bette,” Tina said firmly.
“Then why bring her into this?” Bette waved her hand to prove her point.
“Because I’m trying to remind you that we are perfect together,” she all but shouted at her ex-wife. “That there’s no need to look elsewhere.”
“I don’t need you to remind me, Tina,” Bette shot back. “I know we’re perfect together!”
Tina took a step back. The situation was spinning out of control. “Tell me you don’t love me.”

this was awesome, luv it but please dont put bette n tina back as yet, keep her w/ the senator, its a promising relationship..n i luv bette’s strength in this story
Oops, looks like Barbara wasn’t so far away after all. Glad that Bette stopped things before they got out of control. I hope Tina doesn’t do anything rash like run because it may break Bette’s heart. I am so glad that Tina fought for Bette and didn’t give up. I will be looking for the next chapter as I am sure the drama is about to commence.
Just keep Bette and Tina together, The can work out any problem.together.
Why should she talk to Barbara. Bette has to make the decision to go back to Tina it’s not Barbara’s decision. Bette needs to go back to Tina.
Ok Bette let talk to barbara and tell her that you don’t want to see her again and please go aways, cause you and Tina are back together now. Please post more, thanks!
Finally…. I love this story although Bette’s pairing with the senator drives me crazy. I see them more as a fling, not a relationship. Hope to see B&T work their way back.
I’ve always loved the potential pairing of Bette and the Senator. It was hot and the Senator was definitely a good match for Bette. She would challenge Bette. But I also love Bette w/Tina. What’s a girl to do??? PPS. You’ve been missed.
“Well, fuck.” Indeed, couldn’t agree more…I can only assume that the Senator has made her way back to WeHo? Perhaps if there were no Tina, I could back a new pairing for Bette…Bette really does need to remember to not dwell on mistakes like Melvin did…Thx for this and hope you give us another one soon!
i absolutely love Bette and Tina together but I don’t think they should get back together immediately.
Bette and Tina belong together. Yes, Bette has had a fling with Barbara, however, her heart is with Tina and always will be. Please let B and T work this out.
awww I was hoping that Bette would be strong enough to stay away from Tina. Her relationship with Barbara seemed to help her get some confidence back. Love the story tho, thanks for posting.
The senator is not good for Bette. Bette and Tina belong together and please keep it that way.
Couldn´t agree more – it´s so easy to fall back on what you know instead of risking something new – The senator is good for Bette
hrmmm. So… this talking to Barbara… who’s going to come out the rueful loser? Bette certainly hasn’t given Tina a definite yes or no. I’ll just be waiting on the next post, sky. Thanks
